RT300
Also known as FES Bike

New rehab technology known as the RT300 is for patients recovering from a neurologic injury such as a spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury or multiple sclerosis.

The RT300, also known as the FES bike, uses functional electrical stimulation. This technique has been successful whereby an electrical current stimulates nerves and evoke muscle contractions. With the RT300, FES allows patients to create patterned movement of their legs, enabling their muscles to work and perform active cycling even though they have lost voluntary control of those muscles.

This technology has been extremely exciting for patients who have experienced a spinal cord injury. Patients who utilize FES and use their own muscles on the RT300 can decrease muscle spasms, prevent or retard disuse atrophy, increase local blood circulation, maintain or increase range of motion, increase bone density and improve cardiovascular fitness. Improvement in all of these outcomes can improve the health, well being, and quality of life for patients who have experienced a spinal cord injury or other central nervous system injuries.
