Pre-Natal and Post-Partum
Pregnancy, delivery, and poor positioning/posture while nursing, carrying a newborn, or lifting a toddler, places stress on a woman's musculoskeletal system. This can result in pain ranging from annoying to debilitating. Physical therapy can help a woman manage or eliminate the pain. Our goal is to discover the etiology of those biomechanical stresses. We treat the problem and symptoms while simultaneously educating her to prevent recurrence or development of a chronic condition.
Our licensed Physical Therapists have specialized; advanced training in the physical adaptations the female body undergoes during pregnancy and the post-partum period. We follow the guidelines established by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
A woman may be a good candidate for physical therapy if she answers yes to any of the following questions:
- Is the pain moderate to severe? Does it radiate?
- Do you experience discomfort that has lasted a week or more?
- Does the pain alter your lifestyle or activity level?
Common Areas of Discomfort:
- Low Back/Sacroiliac Joint
- Wrists/Elbows - secondary to edema
- Neck/Upper Back/Shoulder Girdle
- Hips/Knees
Treatment is focused on Pain Management, Postural Education, Muscle Re-Education, Normal Alignment and Supervised Exercises
