Brain Injury

Injuries to the brain differ in origin and affect different parts of the brain. Each brain injury is unique. Brain injuries are often described as either traumatic brain injury (TBI) or acquired brain injury (ABI), depending on the cause of the injury.

Both traumatic and acquired brain injuries are lifetime disabilities. If the brain injury is treated in a timely and appropriate manner, however, the affected individual may be able to learn compensatory skills that, together with a redefinition of realistic goals, can enable him or her to return to a productive life.
